The problem is, no one understands what is happening. Even the word Now is misleading, since by saying "Now" what you mean is in that moment that already past. A wise man once said to focus only on whats coming, lest you be taken by surprise. It is not at all about what is happening, only what is to be. It is not about making the right choices, it is how you will deal with the consequences. |

Why shouldn't I work for the NSA? That's a tough one. But I'll take a shot. Say I'm working at the NSA, and somebody puts a code on my desk, somethin' no one else can break. Maybe I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I'm real happy with myself, cus' I did my job well. But maybe that code was the location of some rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East and once they have that location, they bomb the village where the rebels are hiding... Fifteen hundred people that I never met, never had no problem with get killed. Now the politicians are sayin', "Oh, Send in the marines to secure the area" cus' they don't give a shit. It won't be their kid over there, gettin' shot. Just like it wasn't them when their number got called, cus' they were pullin' a tour in the National Guard. It'll be some kid from Southie over there takin' shrapnel in the ass. He comes back to find that the plant he used to work at got exported to the country he just got back from. And the guy who put the shrapnel in his ass got his old job, cus' he'll work for fifteen cents a day and no bathroom breaks. Meanwhile he realizes the only reason he was over there in the first place was so that we could install a government that would sell us oil at a good price. And of course the oil companies used the little skirmish over there to scare up domestic oil prices. A cute little ancillary benefit for them but it ain't helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon. They're takin' their sweet time bringin' the oil back, of course, maybe even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who likes to drink martinis and fuckin' play slalom with the icebergs, it ain't too long 'til he hits one, spills the oil and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic. So now my buddy's out of work. He can't afford to drive, so he's walking to the fuckin' job interviews, which sucks because the shrapnel in his ass is givin' him chronic hemorrhoids. And meanwhile he's starvin' cus' every time he tries to get a bite to eat the only blue plate special they're servin' is North Atlantic scrod with Quaker State. So what did I think? I'm holdin' out for somethin' better. I figure fuck it, while I'm at it why not just shoot my buddy, take his job, give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I could be elected President. -- Will from Good Will Hunting |

Breaking news from the front lines of wal-mart
Well, not really news, but this job is breaking me.
So yeah, The other day, we hear a page over the radio at work "Jim, why isn't your radio on?"
I love my managers. The first to page me on the radio, when I'm right behind them with a line of carts, trying to get them into the building "Ed we need more carts in the building..." Now mind you, a full line of carts (about 15 on average, each weighing in at about 50 lbs, for a total of usually 1/4 to 1/2 tons of metal and plastic on bad wheels) isn't quite the quietest fucking thing in the world. Some of them, yeah, special people they are. The same people who for 7 months since I started working have heard me tell them that my back really can't take the strain of the one-sided pulling thats involved, yet pass me up for transfers.
On a funnier anecdotal side, with managers paging me at the wrong times, my customer service manager asks where I am, from the front counter, as I am wlaking out of the bathroom which is pretty much right behind her. I respond in my hannibal lecter voice "I'm right behind you Clarise", she of course, jumps about 6 feet in the air when she realizes im there, then proceeds to throw a very bad play-kick at me, which is immediately caught and held about 3 feet from the ground. Next thing that goes over the radio, from me, to her "Do not attempt to kick the martial artist. It is a bad idea." Another manager comes around the corner at this point, looks at my CSM, looks at me holding her foot, laughs and walks away.
There are some good ones, but they are mostly two-faced morons.
Cant wait til the profit share bonus check comes through, I can get my car, and get another job.
I hate this area. Stupid people.
</stupid 3:30AM rant>
On the good side, I have two days off and Connor in the morning, should probably try and make myself sleep.

So yeah, another update. Ed is once again blissfully single, looking forward to Otakon this year since my AB plans were a bust. Still fighting for my rights as a willing, able and good father against my ex and a system that is absurdly biased against men. Hooray for genderbias in a twisted system of judgement! I'm hoping she drops the gay card so I can go to the ACLU and say "Oh, hai gaiz, I can has free lawyurz?". Still whoring myself at teh wallyworld. Well, back to my latest crack - WoW. Slainte Ed |

| | Dream Theater - Tears (Rush Cover) | ] | So ladies and gents, an update to the life of Ed after a hiatus. After Tiff left me and tried to take my son to TX, I filed for joint custody. Court ordered her back into the state and now she is fighting me for my very rights as a father to be involved in my son's life.
I got involved with a great guy for a while, but he and I found we had quite a few too many problems that we couldn't work out, so thats no longer either.
I found myself reflecting on old picture from an old relationship and wondering if the girl in the pictures ever forgave me for hurting her. I hurt her selfishly and still haven't quite forgiven myself for it. I told myself I needed to do things the way I did for closure, to stop myself from hurting her further, but I know now that I was wrong.
The sad part is, wondering if a lost love may have been the real thing. I guess I can never really know.
I hope she forgave me. |

Posted on the Warriors for Innocence website on 5/31 in response to the actions they took which resulted in the deletion of MANY fanfiction websites:
<quote> As has been mentioned before by others, I think actions to prevent paedophiles from operating online are very important. I was part of an organization to shut down actual child porn sites a few years back, and our organization had quite a few legal shutdowns under our belt.
The only problem I have here is a matter of filter and scale. There are plenty of Livejournal pages which did get shut down unnecessarily. I do note that some of the makers of this site have apologized for the wrong pages getting shut down and I, as well as other who read those comments should appreciate that at least.
I am a fan of FanFiction, and have read quite a few really good sexually themed pieces. The issue, however, is the idea of the Miller test of obscenity as decided by the CIPA act which this website says it protects. The Miller test states that: The test for obscenity is (a) whether the average person, applying contemporary community standards would find that the work, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest; (b) whether the work depicts or describes, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct specifically defined by the applicable state law; and (c) whether the work, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value. 18 USC ยง 1460 Under this test , a piece must be shown to have little artistic, literary or political value. This test is not left for just anyone to determine, it is for a court.
More oversight perhaps on the part of SixApart would be good. Not censorship per se, but a more defined TOS that would enable people who wish to publish things which may violate the TOS to understand that they may need to find other places to post their material. A warning on the journals of those individuals which prompts for a date of birth would even suffice.
Written fiction involving people under the age of legal consent IS legal under federal law. Child pornography does not include the written word, and would not have been included even under the guidelines of the Child Pornography Prevention Act. One must be careful not to instantly label someone who writes fiction about teenagers in sexual situations a paedophile. If there is a true sexual attraction to people that are beginning sexual maturity, but are not yet a legal adult, the term is ephebophilia. The problem being that the idea of adulthood has changed over the past 100 years, since most likely, your great grandmother was only 14-16 when she first gave birth. America is the one of only a few nation with such a confused outlook on sexuality.
Self oversight is key in a case like this. Both on the part of the website owner in cases such as this to make it possible to self-regulate material published on their pages without direct censorship as well as on the part of the publisher.
Good luck in the fight against true paedophiles, but please keep these ideas in mind. </quote>
Now given I have read quite a few really bad FanFics (I am looking at some of you stereotypical Gundam Wing Slash writers) which would probably fail the "literary value" test, but I think that SixApart (the company behind LJ) and the community need to work together.

I miss my wife, I miss my son. I hate the fact that right now they are half a country away. Wolf and Chii if you are reading this, I understand what you two just went through. In fact, geographically, I know exactly what you went through. Tiff and Connor are about 45 minutes north of Houston, TX right now. I am in North Adams, MA, 1800 miles away. They went to a wedding which I was unable to attend and will be there until I pick them up from Logan on saturday.
This sucks.
Quiet house, empty bed, no putting connor off to sleep. Its killing me. The quiet house has its own poison separate from the rest, no humans to talk to so the walls begin. Empty bed==sleepless night. No Tiff to beat me senseless in her edgeofdream twitches (Yes, I know its wierd that I miss that)
cant wait for saturday, cant wait to hear my sons voice and tiffs voice in person! |

The Everything Test There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all. Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-) | Personality | You are more emotional than logical, more concerned about others than concerned about self, more atheist than religious, more dependent than loner, more lazy than workaholic, more traditional than rebel, more engineering mind than artistic mind, more idealist than cynical, more leader than follower, and more extroverted than introverted.
As for specific personality traits, you are adventurious (100%), romantic (86%), musical (84%), intellectual (70%). | | | Stereotypes | | Punk Rock | 93% | | Old Geezer | 83% | | Geek | 71% | | | | Life Experience | | Sex | 52% | | Substances | 35% | | Travel | 15% | | Politics Your political views would best be described as Socialist, whom you agree with around 100% of the time. | | Socioeconomic Your attitude toward life best associates you with Middle Class. You make more than 73% of those who have taken this test, and 33% less than the U.S. average. | If your life was a movie, it would be rated R. By the way, your hottness rank is 62%, hotter than 57% of other test takers. | TAKE THE TEST brought to you by thatsurveysite |

| | The Kleptones - Revolverlution | ] | well, I gots fired from rent-a-center after all, and up to today have been unemployed. Good news though, I now am working as a temp at a decent sized bank in the collections department at a good wage, and this could turn into a permanent job. The enviroment is good, and I found if all else fails, I could reapply to RAC since the old PITA manager has been transferred and a better manager is working now. The new job is decent, the crew is funny as all hell, and the money will be good too.

hmmm, odd random post. kinda a bitch post but oh well. It's interesting how after a long time of not talking to anyone, and you simply pop up in their life, ya know, leave a simple comment on their lj, how defensive they get. someone I thought i was still on speaking terms with, telling me i was not welcome on his lj (a public posting forum with no filters set on either leaving a message or viewing such material) after i left a simple, non-argumentative, and otherwise meaningless note.
oh well, enough of the rant. c'est la vie, c'est le merde.
